For children to be prepared for life's challenges and opportunities, it is vital that we not just prepare them intellectually but physically, emotionally, socially and mentally too.
Children at Heighington CE Primary School love PSHE ... and so do the teachers!
At Heighington, we whole heartedly believe in the development of the 'whole child' and so it is our intention that every child leaves our school with the building blocks they need to enable them to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. We recognise and very much value the importance of preparing our children for the challenges and opportunities of the ever-changing modern world.
Each year, a sample of our pupils take part in Darlington Borough Council's 'Healthy Lifestyle Survey'. The children answer a range of questions about their lifestyles including, but not limited to, their mental and physical health, their online habits and, their school and home lives. This data provides us with an invaluable source of information which helps inform planning for our PSHE curriculum. Take a look at some of the key headlines for the academic year 2025-2026 below.
We became an 'Official Empathy Week School' in 2023! 'Empathy Week' is a global initiative which aims to build the #Empathy Generation, focusing on fostering kindness, reducing bullying and improving school inclusivity.
