Friends of the School

At Heighington CE Primary School, through our Christian Faith, we acknowledge our responsibility to all to enrich lives and to show love and respect within our school family and beyond. We believe in lifelong learning, aiming to equip our children to live life today and for tomorrow, rooted in Christian love.

“’For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord ’Plans to prosper you…to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah, 29:11)

Our Mission:

‘Life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10)

Intent:

The curriculum in our school has been designed to ensure that every child can 'live life in all its fullness' (John 10:10) by offering stimulating, creative and inspiring learning experiences to all of our children. Christian values are at the heart of our curriculum.

The curriculum is bespoke to the needs of the pupils at Heighington CE Primary School .  It focuses on appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum, whilst modelling the virtues given to us by Christ.  It encourages our children to express themselves creatively and thoughtfully.

Our curriculum is also designed to be flexible to respond to the strengths and needs of individuals too - particularly where children have SEND - recognising the importance of a tailored approach.

Through individual and collaborative learning experiences, children develop a sense of responsibility and the resilience to face challenges that take them beyond their classroom.

As a village school, we acknowledge our role in our community.  Our curriculum is constantly evolving, responding to the needs of our learners and their interests by enhancing learning experiences and raising awareness from our local area to national and global arenas.

It is our intention that our successful and enthused learners will be equipped to explore and experience the wider world as part of their journey to adulthood within an eternal perspective.

Ultimately our curriculum is intended to:

  • Develop our mind and body : What we learn
  • Develop our hearts and character: Who we are
  • Develop our actions and attitudes: How we live and learn amongst others

Implementation:

Through high quality teaching of knowledge, skills and vocabulary, across all subjects, all children will be challenged to be inquisitive, courageous, creative and resilient learners. They will have opportunities to influence their own learning and their community through age appropriate and progressive project-based learning, leading to tangible outcomes for themselves and others.  Effective learning characteristics including being ambitious, reflective and imaginative will drive teaching and learning.

Impact:

Our children will be equipped to explore and experience the wider world, having acquired a secure set of skills and the knowledge, values and acceptance to enable them to confidently progress into their next phase of life-learning.
