Friday 28 September

Our KS1 Friday worship was led by Class 4 this week.
This was based on the Christian value of "Generosity."
The children told the story of The Good Samaritan and then led the hymn and prayers.

‘Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver’.

2 Corinthians 9, 7

Class 4

Author visit

Chris Connaughton has been working with our class today.  He told us the story of The Firebird.  He then showed us how to use the 'WAVE' technique to act out parts of the story.  We had a great time.

sewing

We have been practising threading a needle and sewing simple stitches.  Here are some examples from Lucas, Sophie and Anais.  We are now designing a Christmas stocking.

Visit

This week we visited The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.  We had a wonderful day and found out lots of information about James Cook as a young boy.  We also found out what it would have been like to be on one of the ships.  We all decided that we are very happy that we don't have to live in those conditions!

Maths

In Maths, we have been adding two 2 digit numbers.  We have been working really hard on the presentation of our work.  Well done to William and Hadley for their examples here.

storyteller

We had a visit from a storyteller this week.  Elizabeth was telling us stories all about the war.  One of the stories was based on the real-life bear owned by a Canadian soldier serving in World War 1.  This bear was the inspiration for the Winnie the Pooh stories.

BONFIRE NIGHT

I have attached some pictures from our assembly last week, when we read Firefighter Fred's Bonfire Night Safety Story.  I hope you have a wonderful time if you are going to any displays this weekend.

hedgehogs

Meet our visitor in class today....

Dawn from Hedgehog Helpers (Darlington and Aycliffe), came into school today with Magpie.  She told us how she looks after hedgehogs who need a little help.  She also told us lots of stories about hedgehogs she has rescued.  It seems like they can be quite mischievous!  She spoke to us about Bonfire Night.   She told us how important it is that adults check a bonfire before lighting in case any hedgehogs are sheltering in it.

A big thank you to Dawn from all of us.

art

We had a wonderful morning working with clay.  We have been making poppies.  A big thank you to Mrs Lunt for helping us.

missing numbers

In Maths, we have been solving missing number problems.  We had great fun working out the answers, using "do it, draw it, write it!"

Harvest

On Thursday, our Harvest event took place in school.  Lots of adults came and joined us as we looked at The Parable of the Sower.   We all talked about the story, answered questions and then took part in different activities.   Mark, from King's Church joined us in school on Friday.  He told us how the gifts we brought in will help so many other people in our area.  Thank you to everyone for your generosity during this time.

computing

We have started creating our own animated stories about a hedgehog.  Hedgehogs are starting to appear a lot in class!

reasoning and problem solving

In Maths we have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's.  Here are a couple of reasoning and problem solving tasks for you to try.

Puppet making

In DT, for our textiles unit, we have been designing and making our own animal hand puppets.  Here are a couple of photographs showing their fabulous designs.

animals, including humans

In Science, we have been finding out about life cycles and describing the basic needs of animals for survival.  One of our homework tasks has been to find out about animal life cycles.  The children presented these in a variety of ways.  Here are a couple of examples.

Thank you to Emily and Lydia for these.

Partitioning

In Maths we have been using the part whole method to partition numbers in different ways. We have been using our tens and ones equipment to "Do it, Draw it and then Write it." Here is an example of what we have been doing. Thank you to Lucas for this example.  .
